Encounter: Meeting Points at Buffalo Bayou

Encounter: Meeting Points at Buffalo Bayou was a community engagement event focused along the Buffalo Bayou in the East End. My team members and I were focused on the Buffalo Bayou Field Office and activating the area of the bayou located behind it.

Our goal was to have people walk along a bike trail which connects another team’s site to ours. A series of wayfinding and poetic signs, which repurposed recycled pallets and plywood, were placed along the bike trail and functioned to illustrate the bayou’s connection to recreation, conservation, and industry. At the end of the path, industrial “toys” were set up for visitors to interact with. These toys functioned to highlight the historical connection of the bayou (and Houston’s East End) to industry.
